Description
For auction is a lovely inkwell made by Tiffany Studios of New York, New York. The inkwell is done in the "Grapevine" desk set pattern. The patina on the metal is the most desirable green/brown with undertones of red. The stained glass is the green white Favrile opalescent. The inkwell is the smaller size as it stands 3 3/16" tall and is 3 1/4" square and considered a 3" square inkwell. This inkwell displays an acid etched Grapevine overlay pattern on a green white opalescent Favrile stained glass body. This filigree is a very complex version of this Grapevine pattern. It sits on 4 bun style feet. This is a very desirable piece to acquire in the Grapevine desk set patterns. It is a
staple
if you start collecting this pattern. The patina is extremely nice as it is the green/brown with undertones of red. It still retains its original short cylindrical clear glass well insert with flat top lip.
The inkwell is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, or chips to any of the glass. There are some hard to see minor ink stains inside
the
lid and around the area where the clear insert sits but nothing too obtrusive
.
The clear glass insert is also in excellent condition with no issues to report and is original to the inkwell when made.
The inkwell is signed on the underside bottom edge with the impressed mark into the metal that reads "Tiffany Studios New York" and just to the right of New York is the pattern or shape number "845" which is also impressed.
I believe the Grapevine pattern to have been one of the first of the Fancy Goods product lines made at Tiffany Studios. This is probably the nicest plain border Grapevine inkwell that I have ever had the pleasure of selling. Those of you who are looking for an
excellent
example of this inkwell in the Grapevine pattern will be delighted with their purchase.
Tiffany started numbering his desk set pieces usually with a 3 digit number after 1902. Since this inkwell has a 3 digit number it was made during this period. I would say this inkwell was made circa 1903-1915 based on the 3 digit number.

I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July of this year 2020.
I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments
. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the
merchandise
unless it is paid for.
They are also n
ow charging all sellers a commission of 11.5% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 11.5%. This is an increase of 8.6% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 11.5% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges.
If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
